This car inspired me to get my Eagle Talon!

I had a buddy, who called me and said his Mom bought an Eagle. I thought, damn that’s odd of her. Here I thought it was a Pontiac Trans-Am with the “Eagle” on the hood, boy was I mistaken. 😂

I had the station wagon Eagle...great little car. And would do better off road than most of my buddies lifted trucks on 45's....actually made some of them jealous..lol

My neighbors down the street had one of these back in the 90s every time I was out cutting the grass. I see them drive-by and I was curious about that thing. They drove through the mid 90s. I had a 1983 tan and brown SX4. I wanted a Jeep but my grandpa used the money I had to buy the SX4 instead. I always hated it because it cost more than a Jeep would've. 10 years later I bought my first Jeep and have owned several of them since.

My friend has an SX4 and a Wagon that belonged to my grandpa. AMC Eagles were so far ahead of their time and honestly damn good cars. AMC in general is underrated

I grew up in south central Oregon and the winters in Klamath County can be very harsh on the High Desert and I remember when this car hit the market and people loved it for winter driving. We always have 2 sets of tires for our vehicles one set of snow tires (often with stud holes) and a set of all season tires for the summer. Front wheel drive cars do very well on icy streets but not in serious snow or mud so in our family we had a serious 4x4 pickup and a Honda station wagon that got great gas mileage. Don’t be fooled by modern ‘All Wheel Drive’ systems, they often don’t allow the driver to feel how the surface is responding which allows the driver to make minor adjustments to negotiate a hazard. We prefer lighter weight off road vehicles where I grew up since whenever we came up to a deep mud patch along the road we could accelerate and somewhat ‘float’ over the hazard and not allowing the tires to sink deep into the mud. Later when the Jeep Cherokee came along with the inline 6, you’d find those things everywhere, same with the Toyota 4 runner and of course, the Toyota Hi-Lux 2 door pickups. So if you’re thinking about moving up there, you better be able to deal with very cold temperatures and driving in nasty conditions since the roads aren’t always kept well plowed which is why we have the serious 4x4 option to use to drive to work or school. And remember, if you’re stuck out in the middle of nowhere and a snowplow comes along, they’re not suppose to pull you out but they will render aid so you don’t freeze to death and radio in your location for a tow service which may or may not be able to reach you within 24 hours.

These were not rare nor were they 'sports cars'. Also "manual standard". I see why this channel has few subs.

Ours was powered by the Iron Duke backed with a 4-speed, so yeah, not a world beater and she'd never be mistaken for a SC/Rambler or 401 Javelin. But it never let us down once in rough weather and my Dad ordered the factory Ziebart treatment so it never rusted out either. Damn solid car.

I know a guy that had a genuine xr 401 4 speed car. Almost impossible to get it to hook up.

The SX/4 was hands down one of the coolest cars ever made.

I remember reading about this car in a few magazines. I recall that the cylinder angle was changed from 90 degrees to a more tolerable one for a v-10 application. That's why they didn't need a split journal crank. It was also a huge factor on why it wasn't produced. It couldn't machine on existing fixtures. Does anyone else remember this?
